This design science study introduces NAOMI (Neural Assistant for Optimized Medical Interactions), an AI agent built on GPT-4 to optimize clinical triage, patient management, and decision-making.

What did Hor et al. do?

Utilized specialized prompts (rather than custom model training) to reduce the mental workload of general practitioners in diagnosing and prioritizing patient care using NAOMI.

After initial creation, they conducted 80 simulated consultations to evaluate and improve NAOMI (practicing GPs reviewed each scenario output to confirm that NAOMI's reasoning was consistent with standard GP practice).
